Dancing with my Future to Salserin - Cancelled

  • July 18 @ 3:00 pm - July 18 @ 5:00 pm

Dancing with my Future to Salserin, Supported by Lendlease

A number of the performers have sadly tested positive for Covid-19. For that reason, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel Dancing with my Future to Salserin. While we know this is disappointing, we hope you can understand the steps we’re taking to help keep our staff and attendees safe.

Dancing with my Future to Salserin is a salsa party in a back garden, featuring a performance from the local salsa band ‘La Manzana Tropical’ and a choreographed performance to a cover of the Salsa song ‘De Sol a Sol’ by the youth Salsa orchestra, ‘Salserin’. The dancers in the performance, have been chosen to resemble the artist as he ages, taking the audience through a metaphysical, imagined future.

This work joins a history of exploring ideas of afro-indigenous futurism and fictioning. Within his practice, Giuseppi explores the history of Salsa music and Afro-diasporic/indigenous cultures form the global south in London, tracing the history of these cultural spaces and identifying how partying can be a political act.

Bryan Giuseppi Rodriguez Cambana is a Peruvian multidisciplinary practitioner employing the kinaesthetic properties of Afro-diasporic genres of music, from Hip-Hop to Salsa, in relation to memory, language, movement, desire, colour, race and poverty.
