Deptford X has a small core team, so we're always looking for volunteers to assist us throughout the year!

Founded in 1998 as an artist-led project rooted in Deptford’s creative communities, Deptford X has grown to become one of the UK’s leading festivals of contemporary art.

Whether you have an interest in visual arts, you’d like to learn new skills or share your skills with us, we would love for you to get involved. By joining the team, you’ll be helping us deliver an event that has been going strong for over two decades!

There are a number of key roles we’re looking for support in:

  • Archive assistant – Around the year, we’re looking for volunteers to digitally file the festival archives. For this position, you need to be tech-savvy and have an interest in uncovering the history of the festival.
  • Social media assistant – If you’re passionate about communication, we’d love your help managing our social media accounts. This position could be anything from selecting beautiful imagery from our archive, to writing attention-grabbing copy for Instagram.
  • Invigilators – During the festival and at other exhibitions around the year, invigilating involves sitting with the artworks and talking to the public about our brilliant Festival Commissions. It also involves setting up and shutting down exhibitions, providing great experience in installation.
  • Workshop assistants – Deptford X also organises lots of workshops in the local community and we’re always looking for friendly, creative people to give us a hand delivering them.
  • General festival assistants – During the festival, there are so many different roles to get stuck into, from giving tours and providing directions, to handing out leaflets and photo documenting the festival. For all these position, we’re looking for people who can be a brilliant advocate for the festival – a friendly face who’s willing to share their passion for visual arts with the public.

We don’t require any previous experience in the arts and have both online remote working volunteer opportunities as well as on-site opportunities.
