Curated 2021

Deptford X Curated shows ran from 9th - 11th July & 13th - 18th July 2021

Deptford X 2021 was an outdoor art trail through SE8 and SE14 featuring a curated programme of performances and new work. This year’s festival featured three commissions by artists chosen by the festival director, Nathalie Boobis: Chila Kumari Singh Burman, Sahra Hersi and Harold Offeh.

Two of our festival commissions were selected via open call as part of Supported programme for BPOC artists in Lewisham, these artists are: Bryan Giuseppi Rodriguez Cambana with Dancing with my Future to Salserin and Ghost and John, curated by Sandra Lam with Radio Neighbourhood.

Our open call panelist were: Harold Offeh and Sahra Hersi to whom we offer our most heartfelt thanks for their  time and input.

Our digital programme this year took the form of 7 x 30 minute audio works commissioned by Deptford X for daily broadcast on local Deptford X radio station, AAJA radio, and essays by Jamila Prowse and Mimi Chu which explore the importance of art, community and place in a post-pandemic world.

This year’s Curated programme also featured work that came out of our pilot Peer Network – a group of Black and POC artists and arts organisers affiliated with Deptford X; and some of the remote programmes that happened in 2020, including Artists on the Phone and schools project, Sewn as One led by Tyreis Holder.
