Y.A is an International Slam Champion, Performance Poet and Spoken Word Artist from Lewisham and recently won Lewisham’s own RE:Sound competition.

Renowned for delivering lyrical poetry known to empower, uplift and inspire her audiences, Y.A’s style has deemed her to be one of the most highly sought after spoken word artists on the scene.

As a proud mental health advocate, youth participation and women’s rights activist, Y.A has campaigned and headlined countless events on London’s spoken word circuit as well as internationally. She even secured a Slam title at the highly reputed New York ‘Nuyorican’ Poetry house following local legend Kae Tempest. Resident poet at Chocolate Poetry Club, as well as an event, radio and podcast host, Y.A has even won a battle rap.

Writer, artist, song-writer and mentor. Y.A founded the Young Wordsmith project offering spoken word workshops to young people in Lewisham. Renowned FLO Poet, as mentored by seven time Grammy award nominee Natalie (Floacist) Stewart and budding author. Y.A’s work challenges some of the most common misconceptions of poets, women and mothers, all whilst continuing to represent South Asian female creatives from South London. Her pieces strive to educate, elevate and encourage everyone to self-express through the use of their own words.
