Notwithstanding”, is a site-specific public sculpture and audio installation on Sayes Court Garden’s grounds. The project operates by superimposing multiple temporalities; visions from what once was John Evelyn’s Elysium overlaid onto the current temperament of the area, marked by public dispute. Rather than creating a memorial for the lamentation of a long-lost past, the project puts emphasis on the liminal space the garden presently occupies, and addresses its potential for galvanising dialogue in its area of influence.
