Fellow Notting Hill carnivalists @baquedeaxe who have been rehearsing via webcam during lockdown, took the easing of restrictions as an opportunity to research in the park bringing music and joy in the park. There are 8 drummers, wearing large colourful drums, they are being led by a conductor with a stand-up steel drum. Linett can be seen in the bottom left-hand frame, sitting crossed legged and beaming a wide smile at the camera as the band play in a bright sunny, green park.

Deptford X Residency update

😃 First post for my new residency #carnivalreimagined

This evening (4.8.2020) with my fellow Notting Hill carnivalists @baquedeaxe who throughout lockdown have been making use of webcam to rehearse and now with the easing of restrictions on some aspects of social distancing they are once again being creative, rehearsing & bringing joy in the park 🤗 –

As an interdisciplinary socially engaged artist, I want to explore how Carnival Culture’s values of love, unity, inclusion and self-expression can be re-imagined through alternative virtual spaces and creative activities.

It will also be an opportunity to experiment with the therapeutic benefits of sharing aspects of my Caribbean heritage through Carnival Culture via inter-generational participation in masquerade (costume), music, storytelling, movement and heritage.
