Contradictions’ is a hybrid between film and performance art, and is based around five original performance pieces by Czech performance and sound artist Barkosina Hanusova.
The performances have been translated into moving images by director Maj Rafferty as a collaboration between the two artists and the two mediums, exploring live-art storytelling and performance documentation. It was filmed in London and parts in Deptford, where both artists have been based, and deals with themes such as institution, immigration, class society, the female body, (digital)addiction and the contradictions of the big city to a soundscape by Hanusova and Jerome Tcherneyan (Years Of Denial, Czech/French sound duo). Live-art artists such as Takatsuna Mukai, Ludovic Pujol and Kurt Krapperz also makes appearances and have contributed to the film. This film is a unique experience, exploring the boundaries of performance and the moving image.
