Garden of Earthly Delights: A Painting Exhibition
An exhibition of work by six international artists looking at painting’s interaction with instant picture-taking processes, including telephone cameras, screen-captures, moving imagery, photo archives, and Instagram filters. The exhibition hopes to elicit dialogues about new media relationships with painting and to consider how painters utilize and, at times, integrate these technologies in the construction of their images. Each painter borrows imagery that is already a reiteration of reality, often appropriating, and at times enhancing, the descriptive potential within. In bringing these works together, we aim to examine how configurations of contemporary mass media not only appear in painting, but borrow direction, design, conceit, and form from painting.
