Volunteer with us

Deptford X has a small core team, so we're always looking for volunteers to assist us throughout the year!

Founded in 1998 as an artist-led project rooted in Deptford’s creative communities, Deptford X has grown to become one of the UK’s leading festivals of contemporary art.

Whether you have an interest in visual arts, you’d like to learn new skills or share your skills with us, we would love for you to get involved. By joining the team, you’ll be helping us deliver an event that has been going strong for over two decades!

Now is a great time to sign up!

We’re gearing up for Deptford X 2025, and we need your help.

Deptford X, London’s longest-running visual arts festival, will take on a bold new format! For the first time ever, we’re going biennial, expanding the festival to 18 days of incredible art, exhibitions, events, and a participatory street parade.

During the festival, there are so many different roles to get stuck into, from giving tours and providing directions, to handing out leaflets and photo documenting the festival. We’re looking for people who can be a brilliant advocate for the festival – a friendly face who’s willing to share their passion for visual arts with the public.

Volunteer tasks may include:

  • Signposting people, providing directions to the various exhibitions and sites around Deptford, including our hub for more information
  • Talking to the public about what’s happening and handing out festival maps
  • Photographing events and exhibitions and sending images to the Deptford X team to share on social media
  • Invigilating various exhibitions
  • Supporting participants to take part in creative activities
  • Supporting artists to deliver public workshops
  • Collecting feedback and monitoring visitor numbers
  • Supporting the Deptford X team at events and with crowd management
  • Helping set up and pack down
  • Assisting with installation and de-installation

What will I gain from volunteering?

  • Festival experience
  • Events assistance
  • Creative community
  • Build local connections
You will gain hands-on experience working in a festival environment and strengthen your events knowledge through; crowd management, event set up, monitoring, invigilation and signposting. Be part of a local creative community advocating for artistic practices in Deptford. Meet like minded people and build connections with other volunteers and artists, whilst contributing to and supporting our vision.

We don’t require any previous experience in the arts and have both online remote working volunteer opportunities as well as on-site opportunities.
