This session will focus on building your own creative platform and business. Drawing on her experience developing AFRICA SALON UK, a global contemporary African arts festival, and other platforms, Ifeanyi Awachie will lead a discussion on creative entrepreneurship as a practice, working outside of institutions as one solution to the problem of institutional anti-Blackness and methods of curating that subvert the white gaze.

This session is aimed at Black curators, producers, and practitioners who lead their own platform, project, collective or organisation. Those with a few years of experience are especially invited to attend, however, the session will also be useful for those just starting out.

*Please note the earlier time of 2 – 4pm for this session*

Ifeanyi Awachie is a writer and curator. She has a B.A. in English and creative writing from Yale University and an M.A. in Global Creative and Cultural Industries from SOAS University of London. Ifeanyi is Founder, Director and Chief Curator of AFRICA SALON UK, a global contemporary African arts festival, and Assistant Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. She has curated a number of projects as a member of The Politics of Pleasure, a collective exploring the ways in which Black women engage in pleasure as a politics of refusal. Ifeanyi is also Co-Creative Director of FUNCTION.
