Weekend Programme at Deptford X Artist Weekender Join us at Cockpit Deptford and Laban Building, Creekside on Sat 3 & Sun 4 October for a weekend of workshops, artist-led activities, screenings and exhibition tours.
Saturday 3 October — Cockpit Deptford
🧩 11am–1pm | Family Art Workshop
Inspired by the theme of Social, local artist Patty Gambini invites families and young children to get creative through art. This is a drop in workshop, pop by and join us. Suitable for children 2ys +. Parents and carers must stay with their child throughout the workshop.

🌱 2–4pm | Artist Sustainability Toolkit
Join Nora, DX Trustee and Board Sustainability Lead, for a Composting: Environmental Sustainability Toolkit Workshop, reflecting on and developing a revised edition of the toolkit.

Join Deptford X Director Kwong Lee for a tour of the exhibitions at Cockpit, with highlights and insights into the artists’ work. The tour starts at Spring Cafe area in Cockpit, please join us there at 3pm.

🧵 2–4pm | Textiles Workshop | Ages 12+
Get hands-on with textiles in this workshop led by DX Artist Associate Elizabeth Oniri.
Kerchief – Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring mark-making with intention and the power of words to offer comfort, wisdom and encouragement. Using an embroidery hoop, hand-sewing techniques and a handkerchief as your canvas, you’ll create a personal embroidered piece inspired by your own experiences, knowledge and words of comfort. Stitch words of wisdom, inspiration or advice. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created your own hand-sewn embroidered handkerchief, carrying words that hold personal meaning.

Sunday 4 October — Laban Building
✂️ 11am–1pm | Text, Drawing & Collage Workshop | Ages 16+
Led by DX Artist Associate april forrest lin 林森. Using Japanese knotweed as a starting point, this hands-on workshop explores ecology, adaptation, migration and belonging through free writing, drawing, and collage. Participants will learn about the fascinating history of this plant — how it arrived in the UK, how it has become one of Britain’s most talked-about plants, and its entanglements with industrialisation, imperialism, and gardening movements. The workshop will culminate in the creation of a digital collaborative artwork to be shared with the participants and online after the workshop.
Who is this opportunity for? This opportunity is only open to people from global majority communities over the age of 16. No previous experience in art or science is needed.

DX Artist Weekender : Screening Programme
A programme of five films made by artists in the last 3 years exploring durational performance in Brixton, the interconnectedness of technological and human behaviour, social media algorithms, communications of care over time and space, and intergenerational LGBTQ+ collective stories inspired by the Thames and its tributaries. The works were selected by an open call from artists who are based in or have strong connections to Lewisham.
