Become a Fringe venue

For 21 years Deptford High Street has been at the heart of our annual festival and each year we welcome new venues into the fold. To find out how you can get involved keep reading!

What’s in it for me?

Deptford X festival features over 60 venues in and around Deptford and New Cross – anything from the local library to the butchers, phone boxes to GP waiting rooms and even the local gym! Being involved in Deptford X won’t cost you anything but it does support your local community and for 10 days, sees locals and visitors from all over London, visiting your space.

Each year Deptford X prints approx. 7,000 maps that will feature your venue, which we distribute across Southwark, Lewisham and Greenwich, encouraging people to visit the festival and therefore your venue.  Your venue will also be listed on our website and featured on our social media channels in conjunction with advertising the artist that will feature in your space. Participation in the festival is a great, free way, to showcase your business to an engaged local audience – our event also brings people from neighbouring boroughs that you may not ordinarily reach. It’s also really great way for all of us to support local and to promote small businesses.

Is my venue suitable?

Your venue does not have to be a traditional art space – in fact it’s even better if it’s not! So if you have some wall or window you can let an artist use or a place someone can place an installation or do a performance or a workshop in – then please sign up to be part of our Deptford X Venue Community.

Each year we host very successful and busy ‘Fringe Socials’ in and around Deptford – often in a new Fringe Venue, where we invite local businesses/venue hosts to come and introduce themselves to our artists and tell them about their space.

Can I charge people to use my venue?

99.9% of our venues do not charge, this is a free community event and often artists will be spending a lot of their own money to make new work. Your contribution is seen to us a donation to the festival and we support you by offering marketing support/promotion of your venue via the festival marketing and comms. However, if your venue is a purpose-built event space and you need to consider revenue but would like to be involved – do you think you can offer a discount/donate space for the festival? If so, please also get in touch. Deptford X is a free festival and anything you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
