Dumbphne

Deptford Lounge, 9 Giffin St, SE8 4RH

Curated by: Jeanne Charlotte Vogt & Alexandra Waligorski

The dumbphne is the first project in an ongoing collaboration between British-Iranian artist Lilian Nejatpour and German artist Simon Weckert. It is a conversational rigor that attempts to
question how we utilise the smart phone. The physicalisation of apps are performed in realspaces around Tehran to examine this virtual mode of embodiment to the extreme, opening up a
dialogue to the wider public.

The phone becomes a mobile-manifesto that investigates the
potentiality of the user redesigning this hand-held device, questioning the very structures behind this controlled “individualisation”. A sculptural object, a video and several performances weredeveloped during a two-week residency prior to the Tehran Annual Digital Arts Exhibition 2016
and as part of the TADAEX/NODE exchange programme.

The film will run everyday on a loop in the foyer area for the duration of the festival.
